long time no blog

hello everyone,

Im back once again after a long time. Read yx's blog about alvyn's bday. i think its seriously the most happening Alvyn's bday ever, unlike previous years having in a nice coool restaurant. nth bad abt that. but its just more interactive this year having more pple. It was at uncle thomas' condo n my first time there too. And with my forever inquisitiveness, i just cant wait to see the apartment.

33 stories high! can u believe it?! just few steps away from tiong bahru mrt. and at that height, i could briefly see sentosa n mount faber. thats a good buy! but the place was kinda small, but i think its just right for one person staying. The theme of the decor is white... and so i was thinking if we were to mess up the place on alv's bday, it wld mean a tough time cleaning up.

Ok the other details of the party can be found at yx's blog. I shall talk about the bad side of the party~

All of them drank quite alot n Alex puked!

I think i'll nv forget that moment.. X_X i was sleeping beside him when i heard funny noises coming from him. i got up instinctively n found him throwing out from his mouth before he bent over for the "orgasm"

N well of course, i was the one who did the clean up as everyone else was dead drunk. i tried to undress his filthy shirt, but to no avail and decided to do damage control.... shut the door. Becos hes just reeking of that chivas vomit smell...

Back again~!

Finally im back. well its been sometime in the navy already. Still in the training school thou cos my course starts in dec. finally coming soon. its has been a really long wait.. i dont know if i have wasted my time or wad, but i have been trying hard to read up thou the kind of life is kinda slow paced. i chose to stay away from games like psp n all.

been learning abt financial stuff. esp having a financial advisor gf.. lol.. i benefited from her quite abit. and i begin to believe i can become a millionaire soon!!!

sth pretty amusing happened today as msg jack called me to say to have a chat with me. i find it pretty strange, cos its like out of the blue. so i tot i wld be going to his class "missile corvette". (we don't know which ship we gonna post to yet). i was hoping that i can go LST. but somehow i think, too big a ship, the pple are not really that close.

he then asked me what goals do i wanna set for myself for the course. so i said "best trainee". and he asked me how m i gonna achieve that. bla bla. n says he'll check on my progress soon.

As for my class, i hope i can get along with my classmates. unlike wads happening to me now. cant seem to get along with those idiots. think i just cant be accustomed to their lifestyle. too high expenditure, dont think much for the future. have fun at the present. the examples are taking cabs ever often, going clubbing almost every week, ordering supper from kfc or pizza hut every now n then. Sell away all their weekend duties. Dont eat at the cookhouse at all. just sumwhat think that the salary they're drawing now make them VERY rich. Pure stupidity. And what more some of them are just full of themselves. sigh.

i hope life changes for the better. i need more mature pple as frens. But not all is bad. Im happy to meet Chan. we'll talk abt business n money making opportunities every now n then. n we both believe that navy is just our stepping stone. but we'll going our separate ways soon, hope he can achieve his dreams.. till we meet again.

Life~

Life's gonna change very quickly for me, and there seem to be some changes going on in my life. And im gald to say that i think its all going very well~ hehe!

i think im sumwhat feeling fortunate. Very fortunate i shld say. But i'll be soon embarking on a new journey in 4 mths time. Navy. Well there have been lotsa comments on whether my signing on with Navy is a good choice. And i myself have come to a conclusion that, its a good buy! haha. it'll be 5 yrs inclusive of ns. Which i believe will help to hone my marine engineering skills and knowledge. And, not very sure if i'll go do submarine, cos alot think its very cool. haha. but well, its been known for decades as the "iron coffin".

Oh well, not so soon yet, because it'll be my last paper tmr to handle 1st. haha. And i'd love to go for a holiday. HOpefully sooooon.

Anyway, i've alr have plans after 5 yrs. but its hard to say, cos who noes i'd still stay in Navy if some opportunity arise. but my plan for now after Navy wld be, try to get a sponsorship for further studies if i can from some company. Hopefully Lloyd's register. Then go to University of Newcastle Upon Tyne to study either Marine engg or naval architecture.

Then i'd hope to work to Lloyd's register as ship's surveyor. Seems like a challenging job. Heh~! And most imptly, guess what is the pay like? it can go from 8 to 20k!!!

Still, gotta see how things goes. plans may change, for i strongly believe there're abundant opportunities in the marine industry. =)

Graduating soooooon~!

Hello everyone,

Kang is back again after ages.

Thinking of writing a summary of my poly life? Haha, probably too long and too exciting? Ok i wouldnt say its very very exciting n happening. But i would say, it has been a meaningful and fun journey. =D

I dun think i wanna write on my 1st and 2nd yr, cos they've been quite long gone? there were the good times and the bad times. if u're interested, mayb u wld like to flip back my blog. but i think it would be an arduous process.

well, comes yr 3. i think yr 3 was quite an eventful one. Talking abt ccas, i din really join a cca cos i tot yr 3 mite be a busy yr. not true. lols. but i managed to have good fun with the sp adventurers, going for their expeditions and making new friends. Must really thank them for the pleasant experiences. It started off with the annual southern islands kayaking trip, followed by the scaling of mount belumut. And lastly, the cycling trip at pengarang.

i sumwhat found the cycling trip most enjoyable, probably cos i have a junior who came along with me. My sec sch band junior, xiang you. Can help but reminisce the good old days of montfort band camps with all the havocs~ haha. (like almost burning down the classroom?) And then, the seafood was really goooooood~! wish to go back there someday...

then came december hols. Thou there were still expeditions going on, but i decided to take a break to enjoy the hols and the new yr.

i tot i'd be fun to visit kelvin at his place in malaysia, so i did. And it was kinda nice to spend to yr at his place. was a different feeling altogether compared to singapore. And i seriously miss the bak kut teh~ FANTASTIC~!

Thanks Kelvin~!

So straight after holidays was some serious action again. Spinnovex is our sch's annual exhibition of the best final yr project. I wouldnt say my project was fantastic, but it probably says sth to be on Spinnovex. the exhibition lasted 3 days from the 4-6 Jan. And i was delighted when i saw my sch's (SMA) director, bringing the VIPs to our booth.

It was a great chance for me to meet the industry people, and talk to them. i enjoyed esp talking the guy from the boiler manufacturer, Aalborg, whom gave us a little help for our project. He's a nice guy to talk to, and was generous in wanting to share his knowledge and experiences about working on boilers. The experience that awed me was him working on a US aircraft carrier, servcing its boilers.

And one very impt guy that i wanna talk abt for my fyp, is Mr Kalyan Chatterjea. He was the person who initiated the idea for the project. And it has been a nice time, learning from him and talking to him. And we've seemed to have become good friends, cos i've been visiting him at his lab, day in and out, doing work. The thing i enjoyed most was chatting with him, listening to him talk about his life, and he offered advice to what i can do in future with his forever encouraging words.

Final Yr Project

Im back here, finally to blog again.

anybody miss me? lol. it seems like i've been just so busy chionging fyp for the whole week. what was it about? i was doing filming for the boiler house on mon and tues, then editing for the rest of the week, in the meanwhile trying to get the narration to be done, for the narrator to speak.

Fortunately, nicholas was there to help me do the narration. for once i tot, i felt, SAVED!!! lol. n then comes linus, another group mate of mine. which i call him the Cmap specialist cos hes doing all the compiling of Cmaps. as well as making a video of it. Which i tot, he did a great job.

Background info:

Our final yr project consists of 5 groups. We're supposed to gather information about the boiler (sth that produces steam) and make the infomation into "concept maps" that can be accessed on the computer. It is to make the information, simpler and more digestible. hence making learning easier.

The 5 groups works on the different aspects of the boiler. we're doing the "construction" of the boiler. Meaning to understand its construction. then there's the mountings group, boiler water chemistry, and then 2 groups doing the hazards. OH! theres another doing operations.

My job:

and then came one day, my lecturer(lets call him KC) asked all the groups to come up with a movie to showcase it during the spinnovex.

YEs i admit that all of them had taken their own videos, but none of them came into good use as they were poorly taken. Too shaky. And so, i decided to go an extra mile to do more filming.

And so, it resulted that im doing all the editing and filming.

Summary

but wadever the case. i will still carry on, cos i noe it will benefit the future students. and i was showing this to my class tutor, mr mukerjee. And i was happy to hear him ask if i could pass him a copy of the video once i finished it.

its a really great motivation to press on.

And so, my video will be showcased during spinnovex 2007!!! its an exhibition where all the nest fyp's are showcased.

just on friday morning, i received news from KC that the media has picked us as one of the potential project grps to get interviewed.

Absolutely thrilling~!

SEEYA AT SPINNOVEX 2007!!!

4-1-07 TO 6-1-07

Venue: Sp plaza

With Dad

Finally got some time n abit of energy to blog. Tmr is the last PAPER!!! Muahahaha. And i kinda survived computer control today.

Anyways, wanna tok abt the conversation i had with dad, earlier this week. had a small chat with him when he fetched me home from... somewhere.

i was telling him that i'll be going to m'sia to saturday to cycle. And he said, "wah y u going m'sia again huh." and said may be dangerous, if were to cycle on the road.

I'm kinda thankful that my parents allowed me to go for adventure trips, despite knowing there may be some danger, and will get worried. but so far, i found myself very fortunate. Unlike some of the friends i noe, they hav parents problems. One of them, is the only child in the family, n his parents wont let him do anything that they think of that is dangerous. sigh

Then dad was asking me which part of m'sia i'll be going, and how to go. I told him, will be going by boat from changi jetty. And the place that came to his mind, "Pengarang". Spot on! i was very surprised, how did he get to noe the place, whereas my mum(used-to-be-msian) doesnt noe. haha

So i once again, with my excellent interviewing skills, i juiced out wadever he remembers when he visited "Pengarang"

He says the place is rather rural. as it was kinda like a fishing village. Rather safe to to cycling as there isnt much traffic. he was then with his very big group of friends. I think it was one of his friends getting married. so he went there. the road in the olden days was terrible. full of stones n all, n they had to travel in the car that went bumpy all the way for ten of kilometers. haha! but its been wayyy many yrs. n he believes there are nicer roads for now. HmmmmZ...

I started asking more abt his life again. Despite he told me quite alot last time. but this time round. it was kinda sth new to me tt i didnt noe. i asked him, how did he get to noe his big bunch of frens... dozens of people... are they his classmates? Dad left sch when he was pri 5. So he said, the pple he knew are all from his workplace. and everytime, his colleagues will bring in some pple to the group, until the group got really big. He seemed to hav enjoyed his time when he was young. haha

With the hunger of curiosity, i asked my dad if they're still in contact.. and he let out a big "Nahhh!" carried on saying, "pple got married, lost contact, some dead, some in jail, some became very successful ppl too."

Wohhh its seems like a very good mix of pple he knew. but.. dead? n went to jail? n how the other ppl get succesful?

i began asking how his friends hav died...

2 or 3 have died in motorcycle accidents. went to race. And so im even more discouraged to go learn motorbike cuz even i had a relative who died of a motorbike accident in recent yrs. terrible.

there was this guy who died a gruesome death. i think that really freaked my dad out. this friend was working at a construction site. Piling(hammering foundations into the ground) so this guy had to stand at near the hammer area, to place wood into the place after each piling. then out of no reason. the big hammer came crashing onto his back n squashed him to death.

dad n his other friends went to the mortuary, it was an ugly sight - minced meat. Must hav felt terrible to see a friend die that way. then my dad was saying hes probably destined to die, cos he was initially working at the site, but some other area. he was only deployed there for the 3rd day when tragedy happened.

i shall continue with jail, n successful later.

think its abit long for the reader to digest. heh.

********************************************************

Cont'd

There was this guy doing drugs. And was sent to jail. Never to be seen again.

There were few successful ppl who made it big, but seemed to have "disowned" his friends. Dad was telling me that this guy owns a company that has lorries, tractors, wadever for construction purposes. Cant rmb wat isit, but its rather commonly seen on the roads?

Anyway, this guy got into some trouble in his earlier days. He was on the verge of being hacked to death, until my dad came. :-O As dad was the friend of the "lao da" who wanted to hack up that guy, dad he some negotiations and pleaded him to let him off.
And there was this something, that the "lao da" said to my dad, "On the account of our friendship, i shall let this guy off today. If u werent here today, he' have been dead by now"

But then, yrs later, the guy got successful. he doesnt have a really good character,And hes quite crude to his friends. Sumwhat "disowned" them after that.

OKs, pls dun be mistaken of my dad. Hes not involved in any gangs/ secret societies, wadever. Just that, he seemed to have a big bunch of friends with him. And hes a highly sociable person. In which im still trying to pick up from him. heh.

The Guardian

There's this movie that i watched recently that really touched me and have set me into deep thoughts. I personally think this movie is probably the best movie i've seen this year. It made me tear. And i was talking to my classmate, Liyan the other day, how good was the movie, n she commented if that movie could make a guy cry, it must really be something. haha.

Went to watch the movie with Jie. was abit surprised that shes interested to watch it. haha. shall now talk abt the main events of the story, for those considering to watch it, or mayb those who dun intend to, but seriously, i think its a great movie

The Guardian

The story is about the United States Coast Guard (USCG). Telling about what they do, and how they made a difference - saving lives.

The story began with a team of USCG on a helicopter, going on a rescue mission, to save people on the sea which were left floating after their boat sank. They were thinking whether to turn back, or to continue the search for survivors as they running low on fuel. But they decided to carry on bcos if they do turn back, the survivors wouldnt make it.

Finally, they spotted men in their life jackets, lying flat on the on the surface. it seem peaceful, and the coast guards were thinking whether they're dead, until suddenly a man lit up his hand flare. hes ALive!!!

Rescue swimmer, randall jumped into the sea for the rescue. Just then a freak wave came and hit the helicopter, killing all of its crew. but randall was the only survivor.

Back at the HQ, months later after he recovered from his injury, he was sent to USCG training sch to train up a new batch of rescue swimmers.

Training was tough, both physically n mentally. n the elimination started on day one. the few who were proven unworthy were forced to leave.

Among the group, there was a young man, name fischer who stood out from the crowd. he was a national champion swimmer, n was academically good to receive a prestigious scholarship. However, he decided to give up all that to join the USCG.

thats for u to find out why.. to cut short. heh

And then the days have passed, and the batch of pple graduated. fischer was then sent on a mission soon after.

i think i shall stop here, cos if i were to carry on further, it'll be quite meaningless to watch the movie. but aniway, the exciting is just about going to happen.

Enjoy~!

return~!

Feels like its been awhile since i blogged again. just felt tt there hav been lots tt're happening, n just kinda lazy to blog abt all the exciting stuff recently. heh

Ahhh im listening to sun yanzi's album now. feeeeels so gd to listen to her music again. its been awhile. thanks yongxiang for lending me his cd!!! there's this particular song, tt left me a great impression, n kinda like it alot. its called the moment. reminded me of my sec sch days, when i was doing my o levels, when the album came out.

Lots hav happened in october, 1st to mention martech, which i blogged in the prev entry, next is the mountain climbing expedition with sp adventurers. was kinda exciting for me as it's sth new for me. heh. do check out the photos at my multiply site.

And just last friday evening, i went on a cycling trip with yx n deren. last time i did a cycling trip like tt was last yr. but this time round, it kinda felt more tiring. heh.
We started off at east coast park, cycled to lau pa sat, had a break there. then somehow found our way to mount faber. pushed our bikes up the slope. cos its like absolutely impossible to cycle up!!! :-O and when we reached, felt it there had a nice view, but it'd definitely be better if its in the day. after having another break there, we cycled all the way to west coast park. n of cos showed the guys where poly marina is. Went to mac n sat from 4-6am before we decide to head back.
and it was all the way from west to the east. Clocked 3hrs.

Dead tired after that, cabbed home.

MARTECH 2006

There seem to hav lots of activities going on for me recently, but i wld just like to blog on this bcos i find this very significant.

MARTECH 2006, is a maritime international conference that is held at my sch, the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), once every 2yrs. And this yr is the 7th time the conference is being held.

People around the world come to this conference, to share maritime issues. Some address the problems and try to give solutions to it. While there're problems that are remained unsolved in the shipping industry. Examples of some of the papers presented are techinical problems of the ship, the addressing of human management, error, etc.. N there also presentations given abt some research activities, and some new ideas and innovation are introduced.

My final yr project is almost being presented by my lecturer, but bcos of some technical problems, he wasnt able to go ahead with it. The topic is "transforming SMA's boiler house in steam learning centre" and my lecturer, kalyan chatterjea goes by talking abt some history of our sch's boiler that's been there for 20yrs, and it needed a new facelift. it was checked that its still in good working condition and only some of the parts needed to be changed. And on top of that, computers are being installed, n the boiler is now being operated by computer rather than manually in the past.

To move on, honestly, i wldnt say i've benefitted alot from the conference bcos there were stuff that was abit difficult for me to understand. but all in all, i managed to learn some new things, and im thankful that what i've learnt in class previously, surely has helped me to better understand the issues.

Oktober

October's been quite a blast for me, ever since it started.

yes. and its when sch started too. been 2weeks into sch. n things r picking rather slowly. im happy with sch timetable cos it seems slack. which is kinda good. haha. but still i wld say, this semester will be the juice of marine engineering.

Weekend seemed to hav started on thurs for me, as i attended sheryl's concert. haha, was abit disappointed i wld say. but glad i got to noe tt it got better for the 2nd day. Then came friday, sch from 8-12, then went for basic theory driving. Fail... =( cant believe it. arghhh mayb didnt really study for it. =/ Managed to go home to get some sleep before going for SP's 1st ever musical!

Somehow it got me by chance to go.. cos i think little of my classmates will be interested in sth like tt. then i was talking to wensu, n she asked if i wanna go. So i did! Well... was abit apprehensive abt how the musical is gonna turn out.. but i tot it was a very very gd performance. It was being put up by SP's students. they were the pple who took part in the SP Superstar contest, n the participants took part in the musical! the singing was alright. N overall, its kinda like a big comedy tt got wensu laughing n laughing throughout... omg!

The story is abt the pple who join the superstar contest, n talks abt their life.. families.. love life.. friendship n of cos the road to stardom. i enjoyed it alot. OH! the president S.R Nathan n wife were there for the show too! Its a charity musical, n the money goes to the president's star charity. And.... Kelly Poon was there at the muscial too. If u do not noe, kelly was from my sch, maritime academy too.. haha

Ok.. Yanni's wedding dinner tmr! going to sing for her wedding. was great fun practising at esplanade today. haha. alright. till then
